Toreanna Sumner is Skills for Jobs Development Lead at Surrey County Council, working within the Economy and Growth team where she leads the development and delivery of Surrey’s Skills for Jobs agenda. She works with employers, education providers and partners across the skills system to shape and co-design provision, address workforce challenges and ensure Surrey’s skills offer responds to the needs of residents, businesses and the economy.
Across her career, she has worked at the intersection of education and employment, bringing together different organisations and perspectives to develop practical solutions to complex challenges.
Before joining Surrey County Council, Toreanna held senior roles across further education and skills organisations, leading employability, workforce development and learner progression programmes, and working with employers, education and industry partners to shape skills provision, develop qualifications and strengthen pathways into employment.
She is driven by a commitment to creating opportunities for people to fulfil their potential and has a particular interest in systems change, partnership working and developing innovative approaches that strengthen Surrey’s workforce and support inclusive economic growth.
