Project Director (Defence) Location: Leavesden, Hertfordshire Regions Covered: Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Gloucestershire, Hertfordshire, Huntingdon, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Peterborough, Suffolk, Wiltshire Contract: Permanent, Full-time (40 hours per week) Salary: Up to £120,000 Package About the Opportunity This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a seasoned Project Director to lead major defence sector programmes across multiple regions. You will join a highly experienced building services team specialising in mechanical, electrical and public health engineering, delivering complex and high-profile projects across commercial, educational, defence and data centre environments. The role centres on overseeing the completion of a significant defence initiative while simultaneously directing a portfolio of new bids. You will take full responsibility for project leadership from concept to delivery, ensuring that every phase meets the highest standards of scope, schedule and quality. This is a role for a forward-thinking leader with the confidence and capability to steer large, technically demanding projects to successful outcomes. What You Will Do Manage the full procurement process for all necessary project elements. Develop strong, fair and collaborative relationships with supply chain partners while promoting best practice and performance excellence. Ensure that all installed products meet technical approval standards. Lead and guide design consultants to ensure information aligns with budget and procurement strategies, and oversee the timely delivery of working drawings by trade contractors. Champion the design process by challenging methods and solutions that could improve programme efficiency, buildability and long-term value. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of contractual obligations and ensure compliance at every stage of delivery. Oversee risk management activities by identifying potential risks and opportunities, implementing mitigation plans and ensuring commercial implications are managed, communicated and controlled. What You Will Bring A highly professional approach with strong leadership qualities and excellent communication skills that inspire positive outcomes. A proven history of leading large project teams and delivering major schemes to a high standard. Extensive experience managing multiple disciplines, complex interfaces and detailed sequencing requirements. Deep knowledge of supply chain management and effective procurement strategies. A strong understanding of quality assurance processes and their implementation across major projects. Experience in the oversight and forecasting of subcontract accounts, including responsibility for final account projections within project profit and loss processes. A commercial mindset with the ability to identify, secure and maximise revenue opportunities for both the project and the wider business. Formal health and safety training with SMSTS as a minimum requirement. Comprehensive knowledge of testing and commissioning complete MEPH systems.
